Hosting & Hospitality

Open Your Door to the World

Citizen diplomacy begins at home. Hosting international visitors is one of the most personal, impactful ways to build global understanding.

A yurt is sitting in the middle of a grassy field next to a herd of sheep.

Since our first exchanges with Azerbaijan, the Global Neighborhood Project has invited visitors from around the world to stay with local hosts in San Diego. These guests include photographers, educators, students, and civic leaders—from countries such as Latvia, Mongolia, Uruguay, and Romania.

Our hosting network offers more than a bed or a meal—it provides connection. Hosts and guests share stories, explore the city, and learn from each other in ways no formal meeting could replicate.

You don’t need foreign language skills or a travel background. All you need is curiosity, kindness, and a willingness to welcome someone into your life.

Why host an international visitor?

Because friendship—not policy—creates the most lasting form of diplomacy.
